New Year, New Home Buying Goals

I have been really thinking about the perfect topic for my first post of the new year. What do we all have in common that unites us? Most, if not all of us, make some sort of goals that we hope to accomplish in the new year. I myself, have 20 - if not more. It sounds overwhelming, but I've learned that if you approach your goals systematically, you can achieve them, one at a time and accomplish all, if not most of them. I'm going to teach you via blog, video and by posting on www.facebook.com/homehelpbykaryn the ways I have learned and what has worked for me. I am also going to share tips that with you that I use to meet my own goals. Together I'm hoping that we all reach where we want to go and more. I would love your comments that let me know how your doing, your dreams and more, but please always keep it positive. This may seem like a very unconventional approach from a Realtor, but I want to be more than that. If I can help you make your dreams come true, I will absolutely try.

I must give the disclaimer that I didn't come up with most of these methods and I will give credit when due. I am also going to be using "Buying a Home" as the example (and maybe share a few goals of my own) that may be used many times throughout this series. Lastly, even though I don't know you personally, I do believe in you. I believe that if you really, really want to reach your goal, I believe that you will achieve it and more. This is just the start. Are you ready?!?

So you decided that this is the year that you buy a new home. Maybe you don't have the credit, the money for the down payment or any other reason. Let's not look at the reasons that you think you can't buy a home today, just put them out of your mind. I want you to get out a piece of paper, a notebook would even be better or create a new file on your computer and write in bold on the top of the page MY NEW HOME (or whatever your goal may be).

Day 1

WHY?

Why do you want to buy a new home? There is a powerful method developed by Joe Stump called 7 Layers Deep. Before I explain how to do this exercise, I want to explain why this exercise is so important. You need to know your why. Why you get out of bed in the morning, why you brush your teeth, why you do the daily things you do and why you want your particular goal? Knowing your why is what will drive you to the success and help you stay motivated to do what you need to do, even when you don't want to do anything. Your why is your fuel that will keep you going.

If you know your deep down real reason you want what you want, your aim will be so precise that you have no choice than to reach your goal. You many simply say, "I want to buy a home", but I can guarantee you that this phrase isn't what is going to make you work overtime or even get a second job to save for the down payment or pay off credit cards to raise your credit score.

The 7 layers deep exercise was created to get past your superficial reasons of why you think you want something and it dig's deep to find the real truth that will drive you to accomplish your goal. The 7 layers deep exercise can be done alone, but is best when doing it with another person. You may get overwhelmed with emotions, and that's ok. You may be releasing things inside of you that you never knew existed. This is simple but powerful.

7 Layers Deep exercise

Step 1. You make a statement.

"I want to buy a home"

Step 2. The person you are doing this with will ask you your WHY's?

(why #1) Why do you want to buy a home?

eg. Because I think it would be great to have a place of my own

(why #2) Why do you think it would be great to have a place of your own?

eg. Because I could do what I want when I want

(why #3) Why is it important to do what you want when you want?

And you continue until you are asked 7 Why's. You may think you came up with the true answer after 3 or 5 why's, but believe me, you didn't. Answer all 7 why's. Answer what's coming up inside of you and not what you think you should say. Don't go to 8 why's - the 7th why is your true why - your driving force that will help you get to your goals.

This exercise works. If you feel silly, do it yourself in private but just do it. Everything will come together.

Once you find your why, put that down in bold on your sheet.

Congratulations, you are now 1 step closer to accomplishing your goal.
